David Gale

David Gale is EVP of new media at MTV Networks. After a successful, 20-year career in the film industry, David is now charged with incubating and creating original programming, websites and unique experiences on digital platforms. In 2009, the unit premiered $5 COVER, from Craig Brewer, the writer-director of HUSTLE AND FLOW. Based on the response to the first season in Memphis, the multiplatform music series is being developed as a franchise, with $5 COVER: SEATTLE wrapping recently and slated for debut later this year. Prior to starting MTV New Media, David served as EVP of MTV Films from its inception in 1995 until August 2006. During his tenure, MTV Films grossed more than a billion dollars at the box office and opened 7 movies at #1 on their opening weekends. David supervised the production and release of 26 films, including ELECTION, BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA, VARSITY BLUES, ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY, and COACH CARTER. The division also actively supported independent films, buying and releasing such Sundance standouts as HUSTLE AND FLOW, BETTER LUCK TOMORROW, and NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. David graduated with honors from Stanford University and received a law degree from NYU. He is founder and chairman of the non-profit organization Hollywood HEART, which runs a camping program for children affected by AIDS and a film workshop for at-risk children.
